Scottish Statutory Debt Solutions Statistics for 2023-24
Accountant in Bankruptcy (AiB) has released official statistics reporting statutory debt solutions and company insolvencies in Scotland for the financial year 2023-24.
Scottish Statutory Debt Solutions Statistics for 2023-24
- There were 8,082 personal insolvencies (bankruptcies and PTDs) in 2023-24, 81 (1.0%) more than in the previous financial year (2022-23).
- Bankruptcies increased by 5.9% from 2,357 to 2,495 and PTDs decreased by 1.0% from 5,644 to 5,587 when compared with 2022-23.
- There were 3,476 applications for moratoria granted in 2023-24. This is 208 (6.4%) more than the figure of 3,268 granted in 2022-23.
- In 2023-24, a total of 2,015 bankruptcy awards were made following applications submitted to AiB (excluding petitions), all through the revised fee structure. Of this total, 1,911 (94.8%) applicants were not required to pay any fee at all.
- There were 5,278 debt payment programmes (DPPs) under the DAS approved in 2023-24, compared with 4,947 approved in 2023-24 representing an increase of 6.7%.
- There were 1,826 DPPs under the DAS completed in 2023-24, a decrease of 4.8% when compared with 1,918 in 2022-23.
- There were 1,602 DPPs under the DAS revoked in 2023-24. This is 3 (0.2%) more than the figure of 1,599 revoked in 2022-23.
- Corporate insolvencies (include receivership appointments, compulsory liquidations, and creditors’ voluntary liquidations) increased by 3.2% from 1,132 in 2022-23 to 1,168 in 2023-24.
- The figures released today were produced in accordance with the professional standards set out in the Code of Practice for Official Statistics.
