Staff report

AiB People

All staff receive support to facilitate their ongoing professional and personal growth. We provide training and development opportunities across all business areas as part of our commitment to support staff.

Training has supported our key development areas such as Content Design, Cloud Literacy, Cyber Security, Stakeholder Engagement, Agile Project Management and Bespoke Financial System Training. In addition individual staff members also achieved work-related professional qualifications, this includes:

  • Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Insolvency (CPPI)
  • Foundation Certificate in Software Testing
  • Certificate in Business Analysis Practice
  • Foundation Certificate in Business Change
  • Agile Project Management Foundation and Practitioner

Accountant in Bankruptcy participated in the Annual UK Civil Service People Survey. This survey measures attitudes and opinions on topics such as workload, managerial effectiveness, leadership, diversity, and work-life balance. Our engagement score for 2023 was 68%, this is based on an 77% response rate. In consultation with senior management, the survey feedback was used to identify corporate improvement measures and local branch actions.

Investors in People

In February 2023, Investors in People (IiP) carried out staff interviews as part of the final of three 12-month assessments to determine whether AiB will retain its Investors in People Gold status. Accountant in Bankruptcy were successful in achieving the Gold Accreditation.

Only 26% of organisations achieve gold so the accreditation is a tremendous achievement, and it demonstrates AiB's commitment to the development and success of its staff. The feedback from the assessment focused on AiB's ability to operate strategically and operationally, putting their customers at the heart of everything they do.

Healthy Working Lives

AiB Health and Wellbeing group seek to support and promote positive physical and mental health, social and financial wellbeing, and boost staff morale. The group identifies and promotes opportunity to work in ways which sustain and improve staff health and wellbeing. This supports our business strategy and business plan.

Staff turnover for AiB permanent staff for the reporting period was 3%.  During the year three permanent members of staff joined and five permanent members of staff left.   One inward secondee left during the year.

During the year male and female legal staff were seconded on rotation from our legal supplier.

Sickness absence

The average working days lost has increased during the reporting period from 9.1 to 11.1, this is above the Scottish Government figure of 8.2 days.

Policies in relation to disabled persons

As an Agency of the Scottish Government, AiB follows relevant disability policy and adheres to requirements of The Equality Act 2010. Positive policies are in place in relation to disabled employees. Special facilities are provided where necessary and equal opportunities legislation fully complied with.

Note 1: It is not mandatory for staff to declare a disability. Exit packages

In 2023-24 there were no compensation schemes for departing staff (2022-23 – Nil).

Consultancy costs and other off-payroll costs

In 2023-24 AiB paid a total of £50,710 to consultants. Consultation was sought on the design of AiB’s website, on designs for LED lighting and solar roof panels and for an independent review of statutory debt solutions (2022-23 - Nil).

Off-payroll engagements

During the year there were no off-payroll appointments made (2022-23 – Nil).
