An overview of actions and objectives for the year ahead.
Core objective 2: Digital services and move to the Cloud
AiB’s stakeholder-facing functionality relies on a wide range of digital systems and services, including case management systems and public registers. These systems are critical to the delivery of statutory services and must remain secure, resilient and responsive to evolving needs.
Corporate risks
Cybersecurity threats
Risk of system compromise, including reported loss to IT equipment and concerns raised by Scottish Government and external parties regarding potential cyber incidents.
System development
Failure to maintain and enhance AiB’s case management systems to meet user expectations, impacting confidence in our systems, leading to reputational damage.
Infrastructure changes
Ongoing changes in how Scottish Government manage its virtual environment that require AiB to quickly adapt its systems to remain compatible and secure.
Organisational opportunity
AiB has a strategic opportunity to finalise the migration of AiB’s server environment to the Cloud by transitioning back-office systems to the Cloud. This transition will:
- further enhance system resilience and availability
- strengthen protection against cyber threats
- improve responsiveness to legislative changes and fluctuations in case volumes
- support more advanced reporting and development capabilities
2026-27 targets
- embed the new 2026 AiB digital strategy
- initiate the development of an AiB portal to allow staff to work across systems simultaneously. This will support the transition to a smaller more agile team under the target operating model
- complete the programme of work established through AiB’s Programme Board including:
- setting up the pre-production environment
- completing the migration of AiB’s back-office systems
- enhance AiB’s mailroom functions by implementing a Digital Mailroom seeking improvements to inbound and outbound mail processes moving to digital by default
- implement improvements with DWP by means of data sharing improving processing times and data accuracy
- deploy AI‑driven automation and optimisation tools that reduce operational costs, streamline workflows, and support data‑driven decision‑making across all departments
